Once you’ve installed Keplr extension, you’ll see different options to set up a wallet account:

  1. Create a new wallet (via Recovery phrase or Google account).
  2. Import an existing wallet (via Recovery phrase or Private key or Google account).
  3. Connect Hardware wallet (Ledger or Keystone).

Create a New Wallet via Recovery Phrase (Mnemonic seeds)

<div  class="warning info"> NOTE: A Recovery phrase or mnemonic seed phrase is a string of 12 or 24 words combined to form your master account key. Only you will be given the key, and whoever holds the key will have permanent access to the wallet. Keep your Recovery phrase safe!</div>

1. To create a wallet account with a recovery phrase, choose option [Create new wallet] and [Create new recovery phrase].

2. The next page shows you your secret recovery phrase. After reading the safety instructions, click Show my phrase. You can select a 12 or 24 word phrase. Save this phrase in a secure place but also do not lose it. (You'll need to input this phrase into the following page.)

3. To confirm the creation of this new wallet, you'll need to enter the words which appear in your recovery phrase. Give a name to your wallet and create a password for Keplr extension (you can change these later). Press [Next]

4. Select the chains that you want to use and press [Save] and press [Finish]. Your Keplr interchain wallet account is created.

Create a New Wallet via Google Account

1. To create Keplr wallet with Google account, choose option [Create new wallet] and [Connect with Google].

2. Enter your Google email and its password and click [Next]. Give a name to your wallet (you can change these later). Press [Next]

3. Read the instructions to back up your private key and press [Click here to see private key]. Copy the Private key and Save it in a secure place but also do not lose it. Then press [Import].

4. Select the chains that you want to use and press [Save] and press [Finish]. Then your Keplr account is created.

5. You now have a Keplr account linked with your Google login. Don't forget to record your password in a safe place so you can log back in. (Keplr team does not store passwords).

Import Existing Wallet (via Recovery phrase or Private key)

1. Click on [Import an existing wallet] and Click [Use recovery phrase or private Key].

2. Select 12 words or 24 words or Private key from the options and enter in the appropriate slot. Take care to check that they are spelled correctly, typed in small letters and in correct order. Next, give a name to your wallet account and enter a new password.

<div  class="warning">Make sure you have imported the account with the correct derivation path, viewable by clicking on [Advanced]. Normally, the derivation path should be m/44'/…’/0/0/0, but if you see that when importing the account via mnemonic on Keplr, the Cosmos Mainnet address displayed is different from yours, it is possible that the derivation path ends with 1 (or another number) instead of 0. If this is the case, all you have to do is replace the last 0 with 1. If you are interested in knowing more about the HD wallet derivation path, you type "HD derivation path" in the search bar.</div>

3. Select the chains that you want to use and press [Save] and press [Finish]. Your wallet is imported.

Connect Hardware wallet (Ledger)

1. After installing Keplr Wallet for desktop, click on [Connect Hardware Wallet] and click [Connect Ledger], and give a name to your wallet.

2. Connect your Ledger to your desktop device by cable (or Bluetooth, if you have the Nano X) and open the Cosmos app on your ledger device. When you see ‘Cosmos ready’ on the Ledger screen, click [Next].

3. You will see the Keplr pop-up to grant permission to connect the hardware. Click [Nano S or X] and click [Connect].

4. Select the chains that you want to use and press [Save] and press [Finish]. Your wallet is imported.

5. You can now start using your Ledger hardware wallet with Keplr by following the device prompts. Note that from the accounts menu, your account description will show the HD derivation path. Click here to learn more about derivation paths.
